The new Dyson Building, opened in 2018 with support from a £12 million donation from the James Dyson Foundation, is the first new engineering department to be established at Imperial College in two decades.
Housed in the former Post Office building on Exhibition Road, acquired from the Science Museum, the school is the home of undergraduate, masters and doctoral research students in Design Engineering.
Designed by Pascal + Watson, the extensive refurbishment over 5 floors provides flexible teaching and learning spaces whilst retaining the historic nature of the former library and stair cores. The contemporary learning facilities include workshops, design studios, presentation space, store, create zone, office space, formal meeting space, café, research studios, design laboratories, play pen space, machine zone, “trouble” zone and exhibition spaces.
Shadbolt were selected to assist the project with the timber door package, manufacturing and supplying bespoke factory primed FSC® certified FD30 and FD60 fire resisting doors and doorsets.
