8 Finsbury Square is the new building designed by Wilkinson Eyre, replacing the former River Plate House, providing more than 15,000m² of office space with ground floor retail.

The development has produced a solution to a very difficult site whilst respecting the surrounding heritage context. Traditional materials have been used to create a contemporary piece of architecture that blends into its historic surroundings, with an elegant insertion into the curving elevation to Edwin Lutyens’ listed Britannic House next door.

The building is topped with landscaped terraces overlooking the Circus Gardens and the city skyline. Sustainable features in the building include 160 cycle spaces, photovoltaics and a grey water green roof. In addition, the building won the British Council for Office award for National Commercial Workplace Winner 2017.

Shadbolt were asked to manufacture and supply bespoke FSC® certified crown cut American black walnut veneered FD30 and FD60 fire doors and door assemblies; 43dB high performance sound attenuating door assemblies and veneered washroom cubicle fronts were also supplied; all items were stain finished to match an approved control pattern.
